Kennilworth Whisp brings us this brief history book of Quidditch. He walks us through the development of the flying broom, other ancient broom games, and the infamous arrival of the Golden Snitch. The various technologies that lead to the creation of everyone's favorite wizarding game is nothing short of a miracle.

It is, of course, noteworthy that Quidditch matches require such extraneous anti muggle precautions. Kennilworth goes into great detail about these precautions which can only make a good wizard or witch grateful to watch the match without worrying too much about muggle bistanders getting hurt by such a violent sport.

Kennilworth's biggest failing in this writing is not covering the epic history of the Quidditch World Cup. For instance, how can you not cover the mysterious world cup of 1877 when everyone involved with the tournament (players and spectators) awoke to find their memories of the game missing. Players were found with mysterious injuries and no recollection to how they got them. Or how about in 1807 when Niko Nenad cursed an entire forest to attack the quidditch match if they started loosing (which they did)? These unforgiveable failings in this book make it rather dry.

J. K. Rowling did a good job of making a light history book here. But I am genuinely disheartened that the best works she wrote (referenced above) aren't brought into this book. It can't genuinely be a through the ages book if it doesn't venture into what happened through the ages.

Overall 3 stars. Best read by ardent fans.

A great guide to quidditch if people are not sure and it would be good to read this before the forth book because they go to the quidditch World Cup and it gives you some background on some of the teams. Very useful if your not sure how quidditch is played
