Really lovely book with absolutely beautiful illustrations. Divided into sections for each continent, this atlas provides short descriptions of the various types of mermaid-ish creatures found around the world along with snippets of the surrounding myths or legends.
Some of the mermaids are beautiful women with fish-tails like The Little Mermaid, others are creepy fanged creatures that will gladly drag you into the depths.
Worth reading simply for the gorgeous illustrations but, if you enjoy mermaids or mythical creatures, this is a nice quick read to add to your coffee table collection.

Thanks to netgalley and Laurence King Publishing for the ebook review copy.

I requested this book because my daughter is obsessed with mermaids, and I thought I'd check this out. I found it an interesting compendium of mermaid tales from around the world, including a history of mermaid sightings in history and stories of faked mermaids. I am not sure about the art - the style didn't work for me on my computer, but it *might* look better in a book. It was really hard for me to tell. It wasn't bad, but it looked a little ... undetailed, but that might present better on paper. I also wish there was some sort of back matter or "for further reading" at the end. For what it is, it was enjoyable, but I tend to expect more.

I received this book as an electronic ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow, this book was absolutely beautiful!
The illustration was the best I've seen in a while, I could spend hours just looking at the pictures.

The book gives a great overview of mermaid myth/folklore which as the title suggests in an atlas form.
This a chapter for each continent with the various mermaid stories found in each one. In addition to this there are chapters on Mermaid homes, magic, sightings & things that can be mistaken for mermaids.

Aside from the mermaid 'facts' there is an introduction to each continent which gives some information about the waterways where mermaids can be found.

The book is a lovely introduction to geography & folklore around the world & the mermaids are useful tool to get kids interested.

Thanks to Netgalley & Laurence King Publishing for an advanced readers copy in return for an honest review.

The Mermaid Atlas is a whimsical collection of gorgeously illustrated fictional folklore.

Each page is bursting with colorful information about merfolk, their locations, appearance, and lore. There are numerous real-world locations in which mermaid sitings are mentioned, which is exciting for little ones. My daughter very much enjoyed skimming the pages. We would love to have this in her library. It’s the perfect length for young readers.

A delightful book all in all!

Thanks to NetGalley for the review copy of this book!

First off, this book is absolutely beautiful. The drawings are colorful, vibrant and lively! I love how the book is divided into maps of the continents and their countries so you can learn where the information and stories are coming from. It is also brilliant that they added Mermen into it as well! Most books I see on Mermaids don't usually include Mermen in them.

This is definitely a book that I will be purchasing as I expect the physical version to be even more stunning in person!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary eARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes. I'd like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me this opportunity!
