Putting this down for a while because I'm not in the mood for such dense reading. Will pick it back up eventually though because it is so well written. Four stars for the first half of the book!

Loved it. I most enjoyed that it covers the time period of when Henry VIII was still alive, through the reigns of both her siblings. I've read books and seen movies covering her life as queen, but wasn't as familiar about her life leading up to that role.

Good prose, but honestly I don’t care about Queen Elizabeth’s sex life this much, her power as a ruler didn’t come from her mystic allure of men.

The regular perspective shifts to men who repeatedl sexualized, infantalized, and/or saw her as only a pawn were too much. I can only handle so much misogyny.

I've always enjoyed reading about Anne Boleyn so I thought I would take it the next step and read about her daughter Queen Elizabeth. The book was very well written, but had quite the cast of characters to keep straight. This was not a page-turner that can be read quickly, but definitely an interesting portrayal of a Queen who led quite the dramatic life!
