I’m knocking off some points because it is completely obvious from the beginning how the story will end. I like a bit more mystery and shock when it comes to plot development. While the first few chapters are essential for character introductions, it was excruciating to read. Once you get past THAT it’s a fast easy read.

I was a big fan of the Bridgerton series but I’ve had the prequels sat on my bookshelf for far too long! With the new season of Bridgerton I knew I had to get into the swing of Julia Quinn again. I absolutely loved Billie and George, their banter and chemistry was lovely to read. I think this book outdid the entirety of the Bridgerton series for me, it was honestly that good. One aspect I surprisingly loved in this, was that it wasn’t as raunchy as some of the others. There was a much bigger focus on the tension building between them rather than actually having explicit scenes. It was overall a fantastic read.

Ce premier tome de la nouvelle série de Julia Quinn contient tout ce que j'aime dans une romance historique : de la légèreté, du romantisme et des joutes verbales !

J'ai adoré voir George et Billie se chamailler sans cesse et toujours tout faire pour avoir le dernier mot. Ça m'a beaucoup plu de voir leur relation glisser progressivement vers le sentiment amoureux. Certaines scènes sont vraiment savoureuses, notamment la partie de Pall Mall (malheureusement trop courte à mon goût), et les personnages secondaires ne sont pas en reste (cette maman de George, un sacré personnage !). Il règne une ambiance légère et peu fofolle dans ce livre, qui m'a bien charmée.

Je me suis vraiment régalée, et même si c'est le genre de roman que ma mémoire de poisson rouge oubliera vite, j'ai vraiment passé un chouette moment de lecture !

Julia Q. doesn't disappoint. I didn't love the last 2 Bridgerton books (Hyacinth and Gregory), so this was a lovely reminder of what a fantastic romance writer she can be.
