Okay so here is what my reaction is after reading this book.

Okay so this book was just an okay book for me. It was good but not good enough to be memorable or to make it to my favorite list. The first few chapters really made me excited but as the story progressed it disappointed me. It started out so well but on the middle part, it kind of became really predictable all through the ending.

The topic of this book however was very interesting and that is actually what made me pick up the book in the first place. This wasn’t your typical Beauty and the Beast spin-off. How? Let’s just say the main character Molly became a Beast when she became a Beauty. I’m sure you guys could figure that out what I mean.

Although I didn’t give the book as high as 5 or 4 stars it doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the book. It was light and enjoyable and I liked it but I didn’t love it.

THE GIST

Molly wanted to be beautiful. (I mean who doesn’t right? :p) She wanted to be someone that people notice when she passes by the hallway. She wanted to be pretty because she wanted to be accepted. Also, she wanted her long time crush Hudson to like her back.

Molly gets her wish granted. One day, she woke up and everything changed. Although she still looked like herself, the symmetry of her face has changed and she became pretty. People couldn’t get enough of her. Kids follow her everywhere. The cool kids all want to be her friend. And finally, Hudson finally seems to like her. But does he really?

As Molly’s popularity soared, part of her changes. She became like the girl who wanted to be. She became the girl who was pretty, snobbish and cruel. She blew off her friends to hang out with the cool kids and gossip about them behind their backs.

Molly realizes this and then knew what she had to do. Although she got what she wanted, a part of her changed too and not for the better. She also wanted to know if Hudson would still like her if she was the same girl as she was before.

The good thing about this book was that it has a happy ending. All things fall into place and Molly learns her lesson that clearly beauty isn’t everything. Molly and her prince charming lived happily ever after.

FIRST IMPRESSION

When I was away from GoodReads I have been reading a lot of Fairytale retellings or any books about fairies. This book caught my eye. It wasn’t just the cover that made me want to read the book but also the synopsis from GoodReads. It goes something like:

“What's it like to be the most beautiful girl in the world?”

If someone asked me that question, I wouldn’t know the answer because honestly I don’t feel like I am beautiful. The topic of beauty is something sensitive for me. I am insecure and that is why I could easily relate to Molly’s struggle and frustration.

CHARACTERS

Molly

She was your typical teenage girl who wanted to fit in with the cool crowd. You’ll easily relate to her unless you have never experienced being the uncool kid at school then definitely you wouldn’t be able to connect with her. I have nothing against her though wanting to be pretty but when she started being a b*tch that was when my problem with her started. I began being pissed with her for blowing off her friends for the cool kids who never paid attention to her before. She became stuck up which annoyed the hell out of me. I mean it was possible to be pretty and nice too right? But what the hell! Lisa Daily made a good job making Molly. She was very accurate and precise on what she wanted the readers to know.

Hudson

Well what can I say? I love the guy. I just wished he made the move earlier on so that none of this problem came up. Haha. But that wouldn’t be a good story if it ended up fine on the first part right? But I think Hudson was a great guy! He wasn’t like the others who wanted to be with a girl because they were pretty. He looks beyond that and he absolutely stole my heart. I thought he was going to be an ass but he proved me wrong.

Kemper

What’s a good story without a good best friend? I totally liked Kemper. She was a real friend unlike Ashley who dumped them for the cool crowd but then wanted to be close again with Molly because she was popular. She was real and that is very important in a friendship.

Seth

Even though he always teases Molly he loves her and I think he’s a good brother. Although I really think he really shouldn’t have teased her too much. But all in all he was okay.

Ashley

Ashley was the type of friend you wouldn’t like to have. She was user friendly! I hated her.

MOLLY + HUDSON = ENDEARING COUPLE

Molly and Hudson’s story is something that everyone wants. The cool guy falls for the not so cool girl. I would have to say they would look something like this.

GIFSoup

Cute right? Althought I dont remember if Molly was blonde or not or if Hudson had brown hair. Hahaha.

Why did I say they were endearing? Well because their relationship shows that not all guys look only on the outside. There are guys out there who looks more on who you are inside. They look at what is more important.

But yeah I didn’t really know if Hudson already liked her before she became beautiful but what the heck. I still think they were cute.

HIGHLIGHTS

- The theme of the story dealt with someone real. A lot of people would be able to relate to Molly’s issues.
- It was written very descriptively.
- It was imaginative.
- It ends with a happily ever after with lessons to learn.
- Main character Molly was very believable.
- I liked Hudson. He is the perfect male lead for a story like this.

FINAL WORDS

As I have mentioned earlier on my review, this book was an okay book. I liked the theme and the way the characters portrayed their roles. The only problem that I had with it was that it was very predictable to the point that it was annoying. I have always been the type of reader who tries to guess what will happen next and with Beauty I guessed just about ¾ of the whole book and I got it all right.

Aside from that I don’t think I see any other issues with it. It was a fun and light read. If you’re looking for a feel good story with a moral lesson, I would highly recommend this book. I also think this book will be more suited for teens between 12-16 maybe. Since I’m already 23, it just wasn’t that much exciting for me like the other YA books that I have read.

All in all it was a good book and I enjoyed it.
