I like Jamie S. Rich a lot. This wasn't my absolute favorite thing he's done, but Goodreads and other sites keep recommending this series to me based on other stuff I've read and liked . . . I dunno. I will read the second volume to see if it keeps my interest, but since I sort of had to force myself through this one, I'm not sure that I'll continue past volume two.
