4 stars. this was a sweet read. i thought it was going to be weirder considering the first few pages, but i enjoyed the cute wholesome turn into a story about grief. i enjoyed all the characters and their loyalty and love for each other

I wish the book had been written from mostly Monstrilio’s POV. It would have been far more interesting. The other characters felt extremely one dimensional and pointless and yet the book was from their point of view for the majority of it.

A strange, dark book about grief, parenting, and letting people (?) be what they are. It was much more tender and lovely than the blurb made it out to be.

Couldn’t stop reading this one. I enjoyed it, but not sure what to make of it. About grief, and transformation and what makes us human.

So when I read the first 4 chapters, I thought "oh no", I don't know if I am going to enjoy this... BUT THEN? Wow, loved it. Was amazing, it completely sucked me in and didn't let me go. I feel so connected to the characters and I know they'll be on my mind for a little while more.
I loved the discussion of how families aren't always blood, and are often who you chose to be your family, and it also means loving them and supporting them, even with their sometimes large flaws. Monstrilio was absolutely heartwarming and heartwrenching at the same time. A beautiful novel about love and grief.
