Mörkare men ändå bättre än första boken.

I am not one to get triggered easily but I did have to skip some of pages in part 1 of this book. It is very descriptive so do read the trigger warnings. Overall I thought the book was brilliant one of my favorite series. The romance between Zade and Adeline is to die for.

Editors. Just. Get some, editors. There were so many terribly written sentences, horrible similes and metaphors, and cringe-worthy moments of dialogue that I had to highlight all of them just to make myself feel as though I wasn’t as crazy as fucking Sibby. Since I powered through book one, I felt duty-bound to read this one and finish the duology but god it was a Herculean effort. The plot of the story is still intriguing, although Adeline’s captivity goes on for a bit longer than I feel is truly necessary. I do love the characters, especially Jay and Sibby. Also, there are a few very sexy one-liners during the sex scenes but even those were made less intriguing and spice-filled because of the multitude of errors throughout.

It took me a while to get through just because of life but once I picked the book up again, I didn’t want to stop. Very dark, sexy, morally confusing a bit. Great book!

“Meadows, baby. Our last name is Meadows.”

This book was amazing and that's something I did not expect to say when the topic involves this book but it is and I can't even deny it. I started reading it hesitantly because I knew that the first part is Addie's story after she was kidnapped. When the author's note mentioned that this book is darker than the first one, I thought, okay, I can handle it. I was so wrong. This book is dark DARK dark. I need to have the best stomach going in this book because I needed it. So many wrong shits has been happening. Adeline's POV showed us the perspective of people who were being trafficked into sex slavery. That first scene where she was taken against her will, I was just cringing and praying it will never happen to me. I don't think I'd live after what she's gone through. Then there's Zade's POV where you see him struggle with losing his mouse. He was willing to do everything just to get her back. He knew what was currently happening to her and he can't do anything. It took half the book just for them to get back together but damn, that first half of the book is pretty traumatizing. I can't believe such people exist. I'm in a very comfortable bubble that do not know what's happening on the other side of the world.

Thank you, H.D. Carlton, for showing us a preview of it. I'm sure a lot worse is happening somewhere.
