God blessed me with eyes and I have violated them. Someone baptize me in holy water and send me off to the nunnery for enjoying this book as much as I did. This book is my Roman Empire and I ate it up

I feel like I need to reiterate what I said in my review of Haunting Adeline. This book is so insanely dark and shocking that I would not recommend it to someone without knowing how fucked up they are and whether or not they would like to be more. That being said, I really enjoyed this book. It broke my heart, hurt my brain, and left me feeling hallow in the way that I wanted when I decided to read it. I personally think the reunion taking so long made it really great. I definitely cried. I enjoyed reading how Adeline worked through her trauma (even if that in itself caused me trauma).
It is hard to rate Zade as a book boyfriend. He is not a good person - which he openly admits - but he is also so kind to Adeline, but then you go back to thinking about how he forced himself into her life by stalking her for months and then breaking into her home. ITS COMPLICATED!! I saw that the author is going to write Sibby a book and I am very excited (and absolutely terrified) to read that and learn about her even more. Sibby was great comedic relief - and also caused so much concern - that I think her book will be insanely darker and also so heartwarming. WHAT A MIX OF EMOTIONS!
I guess you can judge me for giving this book 5 stars, but I am not opposed to reading it again and I bought them because I had to have them. It did something to me and I will answer for those to God and only God.
Thank you, lol.

This book is frustrating because it's entertaining... But also really screwed up. Like... Really screwed up. I don't recommend it.

BOOK REVIEW : I am so heartbroken over how this book turned out. The first book of this series was a dark romance. This book, the second, was just dark. Listen, I understand that women being sexually assaulted in books can be necessary for story lines, but this book did none of that. There are VERY descriptive rape scenes from the main character, and they just seemed so unnecessary. The first book was all about this girl falling in love with her stalker who works to takedown sex trafficking, while trying to solve her great grandmother’s murder. Totally amazing story with great spice and an even better plot. The second book lacked a lot of this and if I were to ever reread, I would skip part 1 entirely and begin where Zade reunited with Addie.

“She holds on to me like she’s falling, but I have no interest in catching her. I will always fall with her, chasing after her even in death.”

Overall, I think the author is very talented; she's a great writer and I truly adored the first book, but this one just wasn’t it.

Following up my prior review for book 1; again, this is *NOT* it.

I will say that the plot at least was better in book 2 than 1, with the focus staying mostly on Addie’s situation and an anticipated reunion between Her and Zade.

Butttt, even keeping in mind the trigger warnings, the depictions felt excessive. I said the same for the first book but it was increased with the sequel. Like the author wanted to write a “dark” and “gritty” novel, and just decided that s*xual as*ualt, unnecessary depictions of violence and m*tilations was the way to go? Hard no from me.

I did finish the set so it gets 2 stars, and there were some redeeming qualities in the actual writing style. However, the number of 5 star reviews and internet ravings is VERY misleading about the quality of the book. 8/10 don’t recommend. 2/10 recommend for sm*t only(even then it’s dark and gritty).
