This is really between a 2/3 star book for me. Plot was good, characters were fine, I didn’t really connect to any of them, but they weren’t bad. I really liked the Indian setting and I thought the magic system was interesting, but that was about it. The romance didn’t have any chemistry to me, and some of the writing felt a little juvenile-not all but parts. I mean, I finished the book instead of jumping ship, so it wasn’t bad- I just was a little let down. *Insert shrugging emoji here*

Abandoned at about 40% in.
I was not connecting with this book. It was like "Man in the Iron Mask/Prince and the Pauper" combined and that wasn't the problem or maybe it was? It was so broad and I didn't feel like it was very tight. There were different mysteries going on but not enough to retain my interest.
I guess the main thing is that I've seen this story before and I couldn't go through 9 more hours of it.
I like fantasy but my main complaint is that it is plodding. There wasn't enough world and character building to hold my interest but it may be a hit for people that are really into fantasy.

The perfect summer read! Lush and warm, dark and twisted, with my favourite kind of palace intrigued and brilliantly developed twin protagonists. 10/10 would recommend, and I can’t wait for more.

I really enjoyed this book! Each chapter switches perspective between the main characters and I looked forward to both adventures, which is hard to get right in a split narration. It got a bit cheesy and predictable towards the end, but I liked the characters a lot. Would read the sequel when it comes out.

I’ve had this book on my Sora app for awhile now and finally had a chance to listen to it. I usually listen too audiobooks when I’m driving. Initially this one reminded me a bit of Aladdin then when I found out it was a switching places story/ lost sibling I was in love. This cover is gorgeous and I was in love with the characters. The plot held my interest and I didn’t want to put it down. I liked the dual perspectives.
I have already recommended it to friends.

I wanted to like this so much, I truly did! And I think the book started out well, I was enjoying the set up and world-building but I couldn't get on board with the pacing and writing style. I literally have zero interest in any of the characters and I'm bored...

Of course my experience doesn't have to be yours, it's just that this book didn't work out for me

I received and arc of this book from the authors but my review remains honest and unbiased

I really liked the premise of this book, and it had a great atmosphere. I just didn't really connect enough with the story to give this four stars. It mostly had to do with the worldbuilding, I feel, as it felt a bit lackluster at times. It felt a bit simple, with some weird leaps when it came to the magic. I also noticed a few weird phrases in the writing that took me out of the story.

That said, I did really enjoy being in this world and seeing how the two sisters came together. I'm very curious what the next book will be like, considering this one ended in a much happier way than I had anticipated.
