This book was fine. Much like the other. Light. Easy. But again, a little too far fetched. On to the last one....

Again, the characters really are the highlight of this series. Addison is my favorite character so far. Something that I don't particularly understand is why Jacob is so prominent in the group dynamics, as he is the newest of the group by decades. It just doesn't make sense (it's obviously done for narrative reasons and to give him some autonomy) and was difficult to accept in the book.

Loved the first one more, but I'm still curious enough to read the next one. It was quite funny to come across a mistake where a completely wrong name was put into a reaction. Had to flip the page like 5 times to be sure - got me so confused 😅.

I enjoyed this book very much! But Hollow City didn't really live up to the first book in my opinion. It was good don't get me wrong and that ending amazing- Badass Jacob is showing up in the third book! He'll be kicking butt I can tell- I just don't think it was better because it took me a while to get into it for the first 100 pages of it while the first book I read it in one day.
This one was slightly better than the first one, but not by much. Both books had the same pacing and atmosphere. I enjoyed the increased showcase of the peculiars' powers in this one. And I liked all of the new peculiars that were introduced in this book. Hollow City has quite the cliffhanger at the end, so be prepared for that!

2.5 ⭐

Look, I did enjoy parts of it immensely. But there were so many factors that turned me off, a major one being the peculiar animals. I just didn't care; they felt too contrived and their personalities were even more cut and paste than the main characters' personalities.
Did I expect the ending? No. I really liked that. It was good being surprised. Do I still dislike Emma? Yep. She's the plucky love interest with a fiery temper, yet she has no ounce of originality. She's very predictable. Jacob, the main character, is still as dense as he was in the first book, but without the excuse of not knowing what peculiardom is anymore.
I also put the book aside for the better part of the year. Once we got to the menagerie, I lost interest. Only with a lot of stubborn effort was I able to make it through their journey to London. Honestly, some of the conflicts the children dealt with were just too confusing. Why were normal adults wrestling and fighting them at the train station? I understand if a few adults wanted to direct the children back to the trains, but it got waaaaay out of hand for normals.
And let me just say I had a huge sigh of relief when Jacob was separated from the rest of the children. I'm none to happy that the dog and Emma are with him still, but at least he can control the monsters now. That's pretty cool.
