- enjoyed the focus on lgbtq+ history + it being set in NY
- the beginning was slow paced, difficult to get into reading it
- the lore behind the metro + electricity was lacking
- complex main character with interesting quirks

❗❗THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS! ❗❗
There was absolutely nothing I didn't like in this book. But it broke my heart. Im reading romance so I can reassure myself I'll find my love too, but sometimes it just hurts yk.
Thank you, Casey, for making my heart happy with this book

A bit too many storylines to follow. We have a time travel issue, a restaurant to rescue, a missing uncle, a coming of age journey, somehow a college degree, and a whole host of characters (one with psychic abilities). I struggled with this for the first 100+ pages and it was dragging. Probably around page 230 is when I finally locked in and got into the story more.
August has moved to New York from New Orleans without knowing a soul. She answers an ad to move in with three people who end up getting her a job as a waitress, despite having zero experience. On her commute one day, she meets a woman, Jane, who she has an instant connection with and ends up seeing on the same line every day. What are the odds? But August starts to notice a few peculiar things about her, like how Jane doesn’t understand references from current day or the last few decades and how she wears the same outfit basically every day.
Without giving too much away, if this took away one or two storylines and cut a couple dozen pages, I probably would’ve been more into it.
