Tough read. I thought the first book was dark but man getting through the first half of this one for me was hard. So much of it dragged for me which is probably great for someone who likes suspense. To me it began to feel like a survivor’s guide at some point. I loved that their relationship was more stable or consistent in this book though. I couldn’t leave off on a cliff hanger!

This thing was really pushing the limits of what I want to consume as entertainment, I found myself cringing from some of the graphic sexual violence and some of the excruciatingly detailed murder scenes. It’s not for the faint of heart. There’s also a lot of choking and knife/blood play in the sex scenes, so if you don’t want to read that don’t read this book.

H. D. Carlton has done it again. This book had me in such a choke hold and I just could not put it down. This is hands down the darkest, yet spiciest book I have ever read, emphasis on dark. I highly recommend reading reviews and really taking into consideration the warnings the author provide for this book because it is VERY dark and covers extremely sensitive topics. Don’t just read this book because you saw it on TicTok, it is not for everyone and that’s okay. <Spoilers Ahead>Read this book because you love the cat and mouse and how Addies love grows for Z, yet Z’s unrelenting, obsessed love has been there from the very beginning. Read this book because you have an open mind and are okay reading hard things that make you reflect on this dark world. Read this book because it will make you feel things you haven’t felt in a long time. Weakness, hopefulness, pride, anguish, heart break, lust, love, excitement, toe curling joy, anger, resentment. Read this book for a happy ending that you never thought possible when you first started reading this series. And please read Satan’s Affair! I read it before the reading the first book but to be honest you can read it before the second book as well. I love Sibby and Satan’s Affair offers a deeper look into her life which was interesting to say the least! Overall amazing writing and such a captivating story! There were some parts I wish were different (such as the ending of Claire, Rocco, Xavier, and Francesca, I thought their deaths would be more drawn out and filled with torture) but I love that this book kept you on your toes, fills the story line with an amazing plot, gives you characters you form a trauma bond with, and includes so, so much spice. 🌶️🥰

Beware the trigger warnings.
I kinda skimmed the warning page and I was surprised and a little knocked back when the warned things happened first. Incredibly dark, not shying away from the ruthless details to make a realistic story. Addie's struggles were easily felt when I read it, I found myself truly capturing her emotions the whole way through. When she felt weak, or hopeless, I did. When she was strong I felt strong too. It was an emotional, brutal book but I'm so glad I read it, it was something that made me look up at the world I am in.

This is quite possibly the darkest dark romance I’ve ever read. If you’re hoping for a quick reunion, this one ain’t for you! HD Carlson does warn readers that this book is significantly darker than the first book in the duet, and she wasn’t lying. I had to pace myself and take breaks by reading a book or two between the first and second half. Going into part II, I knew there was going to be some significant character development, and I was here for it.

Now I’m off to read Satan’s Affair because I didn’t read the prequel and I think it will answer some questions that I have about Sibby.
