This book was up and down for me and really I gave it 3.5 stars. Parts of it, I was so intrigued and couldn't wait to turn the page. But other times, it dragged on a bit too much. The plot is interesting and the characters, a bit strange, but again, interesting. I did like the way the chapters were separated by the days of being lost. I liked the two strange twists in the end and Bridget being the one character with absolute full growth and change. But Wolf's character and even Bridget's character annoyed me to read and the actions they took. I just wanted to strangle them. There were still some storylines that were quickly wrapped up with no real details, like Wolf's mother. I still didn't really quite get that at all.
I'm glad I read it and really wanted to hike the San Jac Mountains. Honestly, I read this book for an upcoming trip to Palm Springs...well, that didn't happen.

Wow. This book is great. It has so many moving pieces that are delicately interwoven. There is a big plot twist at the end which was truly fantastic. It was as if all my hopes and wishes for that characters came true in a very unexpected way, that i hadn't seen coming. I probably won't ever read this book again though, just because of the depressing nature of the book. It is sure worth reading once though.

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours. I was mostly interested in the story of Wolf and Byrd. The mother/daughter/grandmother story was a bit odd. The relationships between the three women seemed under developed. The survival aspect was riveting though. mostly an enjoyable fast paced read.

This book was on a list of 53 books that you can't put down once you start reading, and did it ever manage to meet that expectation. The shocking twists, details of the story being revealed to us like a layer of onions, with the biggest twist of all coming in the last few pages....just amazing. The concept is a great one - the story is being written by Wolf to his son, telling the story of his days lost on the mountain, and explaining why he was there, how he met the crazy group of women, and their story of survival. Highly recommend.

Not sure I really liked this book. Some things did not make sense...was it suppose to be somewhat mystical ? And other descriptions were too graphic. Baby pooping was one of them. Really? What did this add to the storyline?

I really bloody loved this. Picked it up from a random cheap bookshop, intrigued by the blurb. Loved the main character especially.
