Well written and informative . Great for our white british counterparts to read and to understand what it means for ethnic minorities living between two cultures.

Anne East raises some interesting points and provides some valuable insights about being part of an ethnic minority with a relatively small population in Britain. In particular, I found her comments on the harms of 'model minority' stereotypes especially insightful and something typically overlooked or rejected.

However, I'm not sure that the press treatment of Shamima Begum compared to Jack Letts was quite as she described. She hones in on him being reported as being influenced by his mates, while the grooming of Begum was downplayed. However, he had nicknames in the press ('Jihadi Jack') and his case is not exactly equivalent to hers in every way, so it makes sense that there would be differences in their press treatment. Besides, I think there are many parallels between the press coverage in both cases that could be demonstrated to show Islamophobia, which were not addressed.
