I feel like I need to explain this particular five-star rating. Here's the thing: I really like terrible people in the books I read. I particularly enjoy reading about them going through various trials, tribulations, even misfortune. Some of my favorite characters are terrible people, but I really enjoy reading about them.
As a result, this book was a treat for me. Almost everyone is a terrible person, but very convincingly written and, dare I say, compelling. We can all see that Bram is an absolute self-sabotaging mess of a person, but I still empathized with him a bit because he has so much remorse and loves his family deeply, so I found myself rooting for him a bit by the end despite myself. Fi is someone we've all met or known and I'll leave it at that.
I was engaged throughout the reading. This was like watching a train wreck unfold in slow motion and I couldn't look away. There were several plot points that most people could see coming a mile away, but still a few that surprised me as well.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly the sort of quick, engaging read I imagine the average reader would enjoy. There's enough to talk about to make an engaging discussion out of the contents. Most importantly for me, the characters feel very authentic and fun to read about.
This book makes no pretensions to high literature. It's a story about a train wreck and does so in a very engaging and efficient way. Very enjoyable indeed!

I have no idea how this book ended up on my To Read list but I'm glad it did. It was quite a pleasant little surprise.
Fi and her husband, Bram, have separated but look after their kids in a birds nest custody arrangement - the kids live permanently in the family home and Fi and Bram take turns living with them. That is, until Fi turns up at the house one day to find all their furniture gone and new owners moving in. And Bram is missing.
It's an interesting read as we discover what led to Bram selling the house out from under his family, and the aftermath.
There are some reviews that guess there might be a sequel but I hope not. The ending was perfect, with no more needing to be said.

I was expecting a lot more from this book. I think the hype around this one left me expecting bigger things than what I actually got. Having said that, it is good and it is a page turner.
I would call this less of a thriller than it is a poor slog through miserable life choices. Bram is every stupid man in the world and Fiona is truly an oblivious idiot. Basically this is a delve into what happens when everyone in the story makes bad choices that could easily have been avoided.
Wow a woman's worst nightmare come true. Just as you think she can't deal with anymore a big explosive ending comes and you realize she'll land right on her feet and make it through. Sad, and emotional story about a fairly typical family.
Really enjoyed this one. It's a pretty slow burn but I wanted to find out what happened next and how it would unravel so it kept me going. The different POVs were very well executed and, although I saw a couple of twists coming, I thought it was pretty unlike anything I've read before. I loved the ending!
It's one of those you're better off going in knowing nothing about it at all.

I had to put this book down, it didn’t hold my interest and I wasn’t excited to read it.
