I'll admit, I didn't really read the blurb or know what this was about, just glanced enough to gather "missing girl/ghost" and figured it would be up my alley. So going into this, I, like Richard, assumed that when his little friend Melanie went missing, and then a "presence" showed up in his life shortly after, that Melanie was dead, and this was her ghost. That IS an interesting premise.

If I had read the blurb, I would have realized there was much more to the story than that.

I listened to the audio edition of this book (I received it for free in exchange for an honest review). Often these "AudiobookBoom" books also have the text available in KindleUnlimited, and I like to have that option. To quickly look over things I've listened to. This was NOT part of KU, and I really would have liked to be able to read over some of the stuff, as I was getting quite confused here and there as the story jumped around. I often wonder if things are sometimes presented a little more clearly in print. If there are italics, or ***** to separate when the scene shifts from one POV to another. Things that may be harder to pick up on in audio.

I'm all for suspension of disbelief ... this is a "ghost" story after all. But this all seemed just a bit convoluted and complex. Too many coincidences.

Creepy in every sense of the word! Interesting quick read. And that ending … I actually said “oh my god” out loud.

I picked up All Those Broken Angels by Peter Adam Salomon when I was just getting out of a reading slump and my main criteria for books was that they were short. Cause honestly, sometimes just finishing a book helps me get back into the reading groove. At 240 easy-to-read pages, I was able to finish Salomon's novel in a single day. But was it worth it?

All Those Broken Angels is told from the perspective of Richard, whose best friend Melanie disappeared when they were six-years-old. Despite never finding a body, she was declared dead, a fact Richard knew to be true because after he vanished a part of her remained-- a ghostly shadow named Melanie. But then a girl moves into town, also claiming to Melanie, and it's up to Richard to figure out that if the shadow is a fake, then who is she really?

This is a mystery novel with a paranormal twist, which isn't incredibly creepy but has a fun storyline that kept me interested in finding out what happened. That said, the characters were a little flat for me, and I didn't really find a connection with Richard. There were also too many aspects that just seemed unbelievable or unlikely or a bit confusing. Basically Melanie's entire story. However, the plot itself kept my interest, and even if there were some predictable elements there were still some surprises. Overall, All Those Broken Angels was an okay read for me, there was enough I enjoyed to keep me reading, but it isn't a book I'd rush out to recommend.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Richard was just six years when his best friend, Melanie, disappeared. Her body was never found. Ever since, Richard has had company from a shadow. But then, after then years a new girl at school claims she's his Melanie. Richard doesn't know what to believe, and if she's Melanie, then who's haunting him?

This was a very quick read. I read the last over 200 pages in a few hours when I also did a lot of other things. At first I was not sure what to think about the story. The beginning is a bit weird and I didn't know what to expect. But after the first pages that feeling disappeared and I really quite enjoyed myself reading the story.

I was curious what was about to happen with Melanie, Richard and even the shadow. Some things were a bit simple though. I don't think that it would have been so easy for Melanie to return after all those years, without everyone asking a lot of questions. I also was a little bit disappointed by the ending. Everything fit in a bit too neat and literally everything was somehow connected. It's just a personal thing, but I don't really like it that way. Would still recommend though, it's a nice (different) ghost story.

An abstract tale swirling around possession, romance, and a mystery written in a gorgeous poetic prose. This novel is captivating with a strong vein of supernatural and strange.

We follow Richard who has confused memories about his friend Melanie and is haunted by a dark spirit that has attached to him. The descriptions of the dark spirit interfering with his everyday life, of it closing in on him while he was in bed, and the description of it taking away his autonomy was absolutely chilling. Full disclosure, as someone who grew up in a haunted house, this was a hard book for me at first. I found it very unsettling which I rarely find in ghost novels like this. I loved it.

Slowly we learn more about Melanie, the strange situation around her childhood, the bizarre spirit that has invaded their lives, and the dark secret they must uncover. Overall this story flips around quickly, leaves you down many wrong turns and dead ends, and has you trying to guess what will happen next. It is an absolutely incredible reading experience.

Once again Peter Salomon knocks it out of the park!

My Rating: 5/5 Stars!
