Heading into book seven, I knew it would be a bittersweet experience, one I wanted to savour until the very end. When I finally reached the final page I felt the needed comfort of having visited with a trusted friend. I think re-reading the entire series as an adult has provided a completely different perspective and experience.
Right from the start, I knew book seven was going to take on a dark and emotional tone. There's a lot of death, and yet there is also a lot of love. The final installment also answers some of my lingering questions, and the revelation of Snape's loyalties to Lily is one of those bookish moments I'll likely never forget. The epilogue provides a sort of happily ever after, after all of the stuff Harry has gone through.
Listening to the audio while reading the books provided such a different experience than when I first read the series as a teenager, and I absolutely loved it. Jim Dale narrates flawlessly, as if it's a full cast. His voice for each character certainly helps differentiate throughout the entire series.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows offers some answers and provides a satisfying end to a beloved series. It's definitely not my favourite of the series, but still deserves praise for the magical world I've been blessed enough to live in for seven books.

"Albus Dumbledore was never proud or vain; he could find something to value in anyone, however apparently insignificant or wretched, and I believe that his early losses endowed him with great humanity and sympathy. I shall miss his friendship more than I can say, but my loss is as nothing compared to the wizarding world's. That he was the most inspiring and the best loved of all Hogwarts headmasters cannot be in question. He died as he lived: working always for the greater good and, to his last hour, as willing to stretch out a hand to a small boy with dragon pox as he was on that day I met him."
"We're all human, aren't we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving."
"Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it."

A note on some of the content warnings. Although the transphobia is not explicit, the author very clearly believes in a βgender binary,β and therefore segregated bathrooms, dorms, etc. according to that discriminatory belief system. Furthermore, there are several remarks and depictions that I, personally, consider to be sexist because they reinforce stereotypes based on gender. (And, again, the author believes gender to be binary.) For example, most of the females frequently weep while the males remain stoic. At one point, the author describes Vernon and Petunia as looking as horrified as if their son, Dudley, had confessed he wanted to be a ballerina. While sexism and transphobia are not major plot points, I wanted to warn viewers for whom this type of content (even to a minor degree) is triggering, so that they may be aware and make an informed decision.val_theburrowofstories's review against another edition
