If only the atmosphere of the novel’s strong beginning was threaded throughout the entire book.
Despite the continuous weaving of beautiful imagery, the storyline eventually fades into a slow, anticlimactic middle with an unnecessary romance. At the end, the plot lands abruptly, in an interesting way, but messily (and overly-dramatic) nonetheless. I personally felt that the romance was too much of a focus in the latter half of the book, rather than the more intriguing aspects of witchcraft and family heritage. This to me was a lost opportunity for true character development.
Definitely not an unparalleled story, but still a worthwhile winter read with lovely language. The weak elements don’t completely undermine the enjoyability of this witchy novel, yet the flaws do become undeniably clear as the book progresses. Still a page-turner of a seasonal read.

plot: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
omg this plot is so good. I predicted the main twist, but it was still amazing and I was still surprised by other things.
characters: ⭐⭐
the characters didnt really have any personalities. at all.
romance: ⭐⭐½ (2.5 stars)
it was very insta-love, but I loved how it wrapped up.
writing: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
the imagery was immaculate.
