I went into this story blind, having never read this author before, and I loved it! There is mystery and lies, a dash of danger and suspense, and especially romance. Penn and Cora are such great characters and are even better together. I still need answers and more of their love story, so Iā€™m diving right into the next book after that major cliffhanger.

Aly Martinez's writing is always pure F-ing magic.

The Truth About Lies is not where most people picture their minds going. From the start, this books takes on a life that no one wants. The "dregs" of society" are thought of more than these people. But this story is powerful and it will be absolutely impossible not to fall under the spell of Cora.

Her life is dismal. Her living situation worse. Her expectations are severely limited. In short, if Cora isn't doing it for herself, clearly no one else will. So Cora doesn't. Too many people depend on this extraordinary woman for her to worry about herself. Too many times she has been beaten down both figuratively and literally. Cora just needs to keep everyone safe...or as safe as you can in their situation.

Enter two strangers. Two good looking guys...working...here.
Not suspicious at all! (That was dripping with sarcasm if you missed it)
But these two guys turn out to be nothing like Cora expected...and that is the biggest problem. HOPE.

That bitch, hope, can slice you down until only a speck of your dreams is remaining. The speck can be fostered and grow in the dark. But once you cling to it, you ruin the ability to be realistic. Cora learns once again that hope is beautiful and terrifying- right before it destroys her.

I would be so mad at Aly Martinez if I hadn't already experienced her need to drive her readers insane with her cliffhangers. Out for blood kind of mad...However, I have learned this master magician likes to let us stew in our own roiling emotions before handing us our reprieve. So I tip my hat to you again, Ms. Martinez. I am riled up. I have tears building in my eyes. And the worst part is- I'm not sure whether I'm ecstatic or mad at you. I freaking loved The Truth About Lies and am dying to know The Truth About US.

Whether or not you agree with the setting for the book, you cannot argue with the genuine affections that you get for the majority of these people. Its heartwarming and eye opening. I hope that some people learn to be less judgmental after reading this incredible book. Most of all though, I have learned I want Aly Martinez to tell me stories around a camp fire on a daily basis. I'm looking into buying a camp and stealing her for my master plan. (I will keep you all updated on the process)

To all the people slowing backing away from this review after that comment, you can turn around- I won't hurt you. Its safer if you watch where you are walking. To the hard core readers, that are nodding about Camp Aly and considering the merits, read The Truth About Lies. Tell me you don't want unfettered access to her stories!?!

Camp Aly aside, this book will having you traveling at a pace your heart and mind are praying to catch up with. You will try to process everything. Try. But I guarantee even the most detail oriented are going to miss some of the most mind blowing details, or it wouldn't be Aly Martinez.

I can't freaking wait for The Truth About Us.

Ok, Aly Martinez. You got me. You got me good. I pride myself on being able to spot plot twists a mile away, but I should know by now that Iā€™m no match for your clever mind.

The Truth About Lies is the first book in The Truth Duet, and itā€™s as heartbreaking and angst filled as Iā€™ve come to expect from an Aly Martinez book. Itā€™s also loaded with multi-faceted charactersā€”some good, some despicable, and some whose morals are yet to be determined.

Cora constantly cares for everyone else around her. Her determination and genuine compassion in the face of her horrific past present tragic circumstances makes her easy to admire. It also makes her a target. I found myself feeling on edge, constantly worried about her wellbeing.

Penn is living in his own personal hell after witnessing his wifeā€™s gruesome murder. Other than that, we know little about him so itā€™s difficult to get a read on his character. He is obviously still plagued by grief and guilt, but it is clear that he has a good heart and he cares for Cora. However, he also has a hidden agenda.

The end of the book is series of unrelenting explosive revelations that will knock your socks off. I have no idea who to trust or what the heck is going on, but I canā€™t wait to find out. Iā€™m diving straight into the conclusion, [b:The Truth About Us|41828730|The Truth About Us (The Truth Duet, #2)|Aly Martinez|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1536930002s/41828730.jpg|59666406].

Okay, this guy on the cover is BEAUTIFUL. Other than that, the book was okay-ish.

The beginning of The Truth About Lies definitely snagged my attention. The audio was amazing and I just wanted to know what the heck going on with this mafia-ish type gang. Of course this book isn't about sunshine and rainbows. No, it's dark, romantic, and mysterious.

In it, you will meet Cora and Penn. They were kind of made for each other.. but they had so many secrets between the two that I didn't think they would end up together. I'm so dumb for never truly shipping them together because of my own stupid thoughts - 'cause they are kind of like end goals.

Once you got the lies and secrets out of the way, they were adorable. They both had terrible fucking pasts where a loved one of theirs died. It sucks but it was always a huge bonding moment for them. The one thing that shook me to the cored was that they were somehow tethered together by one person. After I heard that little secret of Penn's, my heart broke a little.

Now that ending also shook me to the core. I couldn't believe it and now I'm so freaking pumped to dive into the next audio! I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON AND WHAT THE HECK IS GOING TO HAPPEN AFTER THAT LITTLE SHIT SEES CORA!
