Okay, now this was an excellent book. I didn’t even like Chloe or Shara and I’m still obsessed with this book. I loved the secondary characters so much, and the way that McQuiston can explain the feelings so well of being queer, realizing you’re queer, and all of that existence within the southern bubble. It resonated so much with me. Honestly another great book from McQuiston; and I’m obsessed with the cover to boot.
This was disappointing for me. The first half felt like a YA "Gone Girl" and I was LIVING for it. The next 1/4 felt like an enemies to lovers romance trope. And then the last 1/4 just felt like a coming of age story. I just couldn't keep up with all of the shifting tones and major plot points.
I also found Chloe insufferable but kind of in a weirdly masochistically fun way? Shara felt rushed to be redeemed and *deep*. I think Georgia was the only character that I 100% believed.
An absolutely STUNNING cover and general premise though. This is my first Casey McQuiston book so I hope I like her other works.
