This was one of the first audiobooks I listened to, and I remember how much my mind was blown by how different it is from the movie. The main theme is there, but damn near everything that happens is so different lol.

I will say the beginning is a bit slow, just with all the science and be build up to their arrival at the park. But it packs so much more of a punch in terms of the ethical discussion that's at the core of this book. Sometimes it feels a little much, mostly with Malcolm while he's mortally wounded lol, but it's so interesting to think about, and I ultimately appreciate having more opportunities to do so. There's not a ton of character development really imo, it's much more about the plot, the action, and the deeper meaning behind those things. I also loved how much more the book gets into animal behavior and trying to predict that than the movie does. I find that stuff endlessly fascinating.

This book is also one of the only thrillers I've read. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat, there are so many moments in which you are honestly shocked whenever someone doesn't die lol.

Some frustrating inconsistencies for me, but a solid book. Straightforward, exciting, and sometimes gruesome. Would read again.

Some readers will be turned off by scientific rambling on topics from ecology to computer science; printed graphs of computer screens and lines of code; and several cautionary, moralizing monologues about scientific progress.

Ahh, sweet man made horrors beyond my comprehension (that taught me more about science and maths than several years of GCSE study)

This book carries the voice of an over educated, pretentious, misogynist. The type of white man who is educated and uses it just to be a little bitch about it not to actually make any positive change in the world. The science is neat in parts, but definitely an unreliable narrative. Don’t read this book to be honest the obnoxious objectification and reduction of the 2.5 women in the book isn’t worth it. I don’t care if its a “classic” it actually just reads like another book written by a shitty white man in the 80s. If I wanted to read a genetic research ethics scifi book I’d just read Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake because at least it’s fucked up in a thoughtful way.

Gripping and suspenseful, I found myself whizzing through this book. I am a huge fan of the Jurassic Park movie, and was surprised (though I shouldn't have been) by how different the book was!
Update: increased to 5-stars because I was determined to judge on its own merit, not on the film. It's a great book!
The style of writing, now I've read it a second time, reminds me of Goosebumps...but a lot more gruesome, of course.

This is my all time favourite book! although it has its flaws I find myself repeatedly coming back to it regardless of my mood. I find it’s perfect to get me out of a reading slump. It has a good amount of science integral to the storyline that makes recreating dinosaurs believable.

A good read for anyone who loves the movies. But be warned, absolutely different from the movies. You will find the book much more darker and tense than what the movies depicted. As someone who gets frustrated from movies not adhering to books - this one didn't anger me. It's just another source material for the World of Jurassic Park.
