This book kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! I’ve been missing out by not reading this sooner. I took off half a point because I didn’t quite understand the very last 2 sentences of the book.

I really wanted to like it but there was just too much use of the “f word”.  I can deal with a word here and there throughout a book but this was too much for me personally.

A well written thriller with plenty of twists and turns. It reads more like a movie rather than a novel, clearly a result of Alex Michaelides' study of screenwriting.

I felt that the first part moved a bit slow, with the action picking up in parts two and three. It became difficult to put down, and once I began part four, I knew I was in for a wild ride.
What's most interesting to me is that for the first 3 parts of the book, you believe that all of the events are happening at the same time- Theo and Kathy's marriage is falling apart WHILE he's treating Alicia at The Grove. But when you begin part four, you realize that the story has been told in a non-linear fashion- that Theo is going back and forth between the past and the present to tell the story. Part five wraps the two storylines nicely together, though the ending felt just a bit rushed after all of the driving action in the preceding parts.

I really wanted to like this book. As a therapist myself I am often drawn to psychological thrillers. But this book was so hard to like. The psychologist was obsessive and came across as more of a stalker than helpful. He absolutely needed help himself. I had such a hard time staying engaged with this book.

really good plot twist that had me shocked to the point of disbelief, however it did feel extremely slow at the time
An interesting perspective of psychology and psychotherapy.

This book genuinely surprised me which is something I’m happy about considering the book was spoiled for me awhile ago when it got popular on BookTok lmao. I was engaged the entire time I was listening and didn’t want to miss a thing bc the plot was good and kept me intrigued. One thing I want to point out is that I hateeee a cheating trope ESPECIALLY when the one getting cheated one decides to stay bc me personally, I’d sucker punch the mf that hurt me like that (but I digress.) I’m just glad that Alice ended up getting a better ending in terms of getting rid of her cheating spouse 🤭 disappointed that Theo chose to stay with that bitch Kathy at the end tho bc he even mentions at the end just how stale their life had become and she’s practically a shell of herself since Gabriel’s death even though she hasn’t outed her affair to Theo (he’s knows regardless but still). He went through all that trouble just to be unhappy with her in the end ugh. Still a good book and would def recommend to people!!

This was honestly so crazy, I did not expect the plot twist at all I am always surprised when I hear people did. I really enjoyed the book and found it scary at times and would totally reread it again!
