So the writing was amazing, I love the English-Victorian era writing and speaking BUT it was so short and there are things missing. One day he’s intrigued the next he’s in love. One day she’s not interested the next she finds him irresistible. Where’s the build up and in between? If that existed, this would be so much better!

Lady Amelia Pembroke has ran her brother the adult of Ravenwood's house since the death of her mother. She is an excellent planner so she decides to pick her groom and go after him. She wants to marry so Ravenwood will find his own lady. She plans to find this mate at the 75th Annual Christmas Eve Ball thrown by Viscount Sheffield. The only problem is it has been cancelled due to a fire.

Benedict St. John, Viscount Sheffield has built his life around working from 8am-8pm. He then plays from 8pm-8am. When Lady Amelia shows up on his doorstep with a plan for the 75th Annual Christmas Ball, she throws his life into a spin.

They both find that they enjoy spending time with each other.

I loved this story.

While this was an entertaining short story, it wasn't particularly thrilling or in depth. I finished it in about half an hour, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had a little more room to develop. I might be interested in reading Ridley's full length novels in the future.

Amelia was an amazing leading character. She reminded me of Jo Bev's Rothgar in the omnipotence but held a little more solidness. Definitely a great Christmas heroine. Was a little less enthused with hero, but that's okay. Amelia made up for it.

This was just OK for me. A little too insta-love for me and I'm not even clear why they fell in love with each other. The heroine's main character trait was being hyper-organized to the point where it was almost off-putting. Presumably the hero fell in love with her over her ability to organize the hell out of a party and anticipate literally every contingency. The hero's main character trait was working from 8AM to 8PM and partying/carousing the other 12 hours a day. Presumably the heroine fell in love with him since he let her do whatever she wanted with the party. This was a light hearted fluffy read.

The Viscount's Christmas Temptation is a novella and prequel to Erica Ridley's Dukes of War series.

Lady Amelia Pembroke is a lady who manages her life with ease and decides at the age of twenty nine that it is time to find a husband. In order to do this she needs to assemble the men she would like to choose from and Viscount Sheffield's annual Christmas ball seems the perfect place. Her plans fall apart when she learns that the Viscount has cancelled the ball. Now she must talk the Viscount into letting her take care of things and getting the ball back on track.

Viscount Sheffield is known about town and a rake who parties all night but who sits at his desk all day and takes care of everything that needs to be done. When he meets Lady Amelia he is immediately taken in my her charm and managing ways. But will he realize how much he truly likes her before she has a chance to check out her other options?

This was a good novella and lead in to the new series that I can not wait to dive into now.

A cute albeit short novella _ yes, I am familiar with the concept of novella _ about two people who are used to having everything controlled in their lives.
Amelia was quirky I admit, but I thought everything was just too quickly done.
Despite that, this was a cute and fast novella to occupy the time with.

When I read the book, it was noted as a prequel, but when I checked on Goodreads, it was a #1, so I followed Goodreads.

I read that one very happily : yes, they may be falling in love very quickly, but I would have been denying my pleasure if I'd fixated on that. Honestly, it's a very entertaining read that kept me smiling and laughing.

The more I read about Amelia, the more I thought about Bree van de Camp ! She foresees everything, plans everything, decides everything and all those around her just follow her with their mouth open from astonishment !

She wants to play Viscount Sheffield to reach her goal (attending the Christmas ball), he's trying to play her to make her see that planning and working isn't everything worth living for.

I had a very good time, I'll read the rest of the series :)
