In all honesty I thought I would enjoy this book way more than I actually did. A beautiful cover, fantasy with a good amount of mystery, normally I should have been a fan of it. However it took me way too many pages to finally get caught up in the story and even then, I couldn't fully 'connect' with the characters.

I wish I could have a sensible explanation for this, unfortunately I almost do not have any. In truth, I did not think Prince Of The Sorrows was bad at all and this past few weeks my mind has been too much of a blur for me to fully be able to focus on little details about the writing or the characters that I could have disliked or liked.

In spite of that, what I can reproach to the story is its lack of interesting interactions between Saffron and his friends —more specifically Hollow who is supposed to be the MC's best friend. We see them briefly here and there but never in too much depth or for too long which was pretty disappointing. Maybe this is the reason I sometimes found myself bored or uninterested but fortunately, Prince Cylvan was here to save the day. He added a rather amusing dimension to the book and I looked forward to each of his appearances.
Furthermore, the use of stutters throughout the narration (≠dialogues) and of the word "period." were extremely annoying and should be, in my humble opinion, banned from books —I might be a little dramatic but I despise it. One makes the whole sentence sounds silly and the other completely cut short my immersion in a story. Those may be tiny details but I feel like it completly changes the way a text is perceived.

I will still be reading the second volume as I am curious about what is going to happen next and might appreciate it more than the first one. I always insist on my reluctance to willingly read "sad" books but I throw the little amount of self-preservation I have each time I pick up another book, so let's suffer together ✨️

I feel like i have a lot to say about this book but i dont know where to start… i have mixed feelings because i didnt hate it, it wss entertaining and i enjoyed the world but i couldnt really get attached to the characters nor the relationship really.

cylan and saffrons relationship feeling like a smooth ramp of enemies to lovers it was instead a very abrupt staircase (idk if that makes sense) it just felt like one day he was mean and the next day he wasn’t. and i feel like saffron more likes the idea of him than he actually likes him bc truly i dont know anything about him really and i cant imagine saffron does either so im left sitting here wondering what reason he has to like him.

also oh my god saffron was such a crybaby i found it hilarious that this guy was like ‘yes my prince i will protect you’ meanwhile he was beat up and injured countless times throughout the book and cried at least once a chapter. and if i had a nickel for every time saffron was beaten to a pulp and tied up and left to die in the woods i’d have two nickels but it’s weird that it happened twice.

that being said despite all the question marks and gripe this left me with it’s pretty likely that i’ll read the next book,, what can i say im easily entertained🤷

Got about 60% through, fell asleep, and had completely lost interest in the morning.
