I really wished I reread the first book prior to starting this because I was very lost in the first few chapters!

Overall, it is a very middle-ground book. Nothing was blatantly horrible and the writing was fine! The overarching mystery just wasn’t as compelling compared to the first book! There were too many suspects and the plot can be difficult to follow with the time jumps. I also felt that characters didn’t reveal certain clues until a few chapters later which I didn’t like.

Annie is a good protagonist, I do wish we got more character development! She spends the whole book worried she’s following in her Aunt’s footsteps and then does very little to change that until the very end! I like her dynamic with Jenny and Detective Crane, I would love to see a bit more romance from her!

I have had this on my shelf since it was published and I cannot believe I only just got round to this! As soon as I picked it up I remembered why I loved the first book so much - and this one did not disappoint!

This new murder mystery is interesting and not at all predictable, and was so enjoyable to read. The format of these books keeps it fast-paced as it swings between Annie’s present investigations and Frances’ 1960s diaries. I didn’t exactly see the ending coming, but really hope there is a third book!
