okay I'll admit the caroline story was sorta funny but the rest were just forced dark humor - too pretentious and try-hard.

Not my cup of tea - I left this unfinished.

Spoiler This author made a very careless rape joke about 2nd story in with the influencer/cave-man story. Humor is subjective, some times it's funny and sometimes it's not. I did like the dinner party/murder short story though.

An anthology of funny, not-so-funny and wacky stories. Some stories were genuinely funny. Some made you scratch your head in agony. Could have been two stories short and more funny. A passable read.

It was the type of humor that's best described as punching down. Offered nothing new and was incredibly mean spirited. I had to check the pub date because I thought it was published in the 00s (a time where humor was just: "women, amirite?" or "look! fat people!"

disappointing and was not doing what it thought it was doing. Very 4chan humor I fear.

a collection of stories that are supposed to be dark and satirical. for a collection of stories, i was astounded that none of them inspired me and i didn't connect with a single story. the whole book seems to be trying to be funny or something, but i really didn't find myself laughing at any of it. this is also one of the most problematic collections i've ever read. we get to see racism, ableism, making fun of sexual assault, anti-semitism, bestiality, transphobia, and overall extremely insensitive material. can't find anything in this book that would make me recommend it to anyone.

I was hoping for a four star book here but I find myself stuck between two and three stars. I wouldn't recommend it probably, so rounding down.

Basically, these stories take an absurd concept and just run with it til it runs out. What would it be like to be besties with the most self-centered, horrible
Spoiler and possibly actually Satan
on earth and how would celebrating her birthday go? What would cavemen influencers be like? What if we could read the minds of our anti-Semitic, racist, misogynistic dinner guests? What if we matched on a dating app with Sherlock Holmes with a drug problem? What if you were a perfect mother to your first child and the worst possible mother to your second (I actually did like the last line in this story)?
All of the stories had potential and sounded intriguing, but fell flat for me, sadly. And I LIKE weird, quirky short stories.

Parts of it are funny, but not in the subtle, clever way I wanted.

I never read short stories. They’re over almost before they’ve begun. But having heard an interview with the author I gave this one a chance and I am so glad I did!

Dark and dry humor that is also so outlandish I had to laugh aloud - really hard to pull off. The first story is probably the weakest, and the last in the collection the best - I think I will keep Ruby (and Molly from the birthday weekend one) in my head for a while to come.
