It's weird to read a book after watching its adaptation, but I wouldn't have discovered this series otherwise.

There is a lot of potential here. Vicki, Mike, and Henry are all compelling characters with a lot of deep-seated, noirish, erotic tension. I appreciate the casual bisexual representation as well.

I think the greatest problem with this book is that it starts out really slow. I didn't feel invested until Vicki met Henry, which is about 90 pages in. After that, things really get rolling.

Also, this book is GORY. I was honestly surprised at the depth of description of the kills. Very creepy stuff.

The vibe in this is overall a lot grittier, darker, and generally more horror-y than the tv adaptation. Your mileage may vary, but I think this is worth checking out as one of the early urban fantasy tales.
