This book was the definition of bittersweet. The story begins at the end, at the couple’s breakup, and it slowly starts rewinding back to when they first met. When I first started Out of Love, I hated Theo, I couldn’t see how the main character (who is unnamed throughout the entire book) could ever fall in love with him, but once I finished the book I understood, and I was heartbroken about how they both ended up. This book does not only go over this romance, but also the main character’s struggle with her mental health. Many quotes were so beautiful and raw that they will always stay with me, and the portrayal of toxic parental figures and how that translates into how you live your life was truly heart-wrenching. I recommend this book not only because of its unique plot and structure, but also because of its naked, honest representation of unhealthy relationships, romantic and familial, and the effects they might have on how we think of ourselves and others.

It was exquisitely written especially for a concept that is very out there and you don’t often betrayed in the media which also made it a very refreshing read. The idea of starting at the end of a relationship and finishing at the beginning really makes you use your mind to figure out what went wrong but it is also as if the work was done for you and you didn’t need to do much thinking. Additionally, the characters are also phenomenal as the portrayal of mental health not just in main characters but also side characters makes you think about the people around you and I love how it was a central part of the book not just something that’s was touched upon unlike many other books; the main character was also just super likeable which is a trait I enjoyed! Would definitely read something like this again and cannot wait to find something like this.

I've been a fan of Hazel Hayes for years now, so when I heard that she was writing a book I was ecstatic to say the least. When I found out that the audiobook was narrated by the woman herself, I just HAD to listen to it. This isn't my usual type of read. I'm not usually one for romance, but I don't mind it now and again.
This is a love story, but told in reverse. It explores the love and loss of a woman who once thought her world was coming together, only to have it suddenly halt when her relationship comes to an end. This is the story of someone who reflects on her life from the breakup, up until the very start of the romance. It deals with hard topics, showing how one may process harsh truths and tragedy, as well as exciting new experiences and happy memories.
I loved the way it seamlessly moved across time periods, and although the main characters life isn't extraordinary, it made the story relatable and hard hitting.
Hazel Hayes has a way with words, but not only that, her voice is perfect for narration. The main character is also Irish, so Hazel's natural accent suited the character perfectly. I would highly recommend listening to the audiobook if you are interested in giving this one a go.

I really, really loved this. The mental health rep was so good. I didn’t find it as emotional as I’ve heard others claim it to be but it did make me reflect and think!
