I love the Travis family. They are Houston royalty, rich, sexy powerful and the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Shadows have followed them, their past has not been a bunch of yellow roses. I've enjoyed watching them all find the light that chases those dark bits back in the corner where they belong, and I will miss them now that they are done.
Joe, the young rebel Travis, who set his own path, one that Daddy didn't approve of has finally found his match. Avery, the red headed spit fire wedding planner with her own troop of shadows tumbles into his life. Together these two are fire and ice. She has issues, Daddy issues, past relationship issues, and self esteem issues. While he has come to terms with many of his in the last few books, Avery will be a challenge while she works through hers. She wants him she doesn't believe he wants her, doesn't believe it could works......Joe the dream guy never falters, never turns his back, never manipulates, and he helps out at and animal rescue. Damn Hot is what he is !
There are several side stories going on. Her sister will have to deal with her Mommy issues and find that that guy who is all vinegar may be sweet after all. There are clients with secrets that are just ugly. There is the cutest little rescue that has a dry tongue. Let us not forget about her business, it goes through some crazy adventures too. The final few pages where filled with puppies, this brought tears to my eyes. He used puppies !
I really liked the book although it was more of an Avery book than a Joe book. I admit I did want more Joe, who wouldn't he's perfection in boots.
I didn't love it as much as previous books in the series. Avery was a great character but I didn't get the feeling of their first connection. I didn't get the emotional connection that drew him to her. It was just there suddenly and his character took on an accessory to Avery approach to me. I would have love to hear his point of view to connect the two personalities.

I'm extremely fond of this series, the characters, and the way that Kleypas' writing sucks up you in. This was no exception, and I especially loved Avery's sister Sofia and her plot. The book was obviously inspired by the telenovelas that Avery and Sofia love to watch, which was extra fun. Despite that, I have to say that there was a sour note that kept me from giving this five stars. All the heroes in this series have had some issues with consent, and Joe was no exception. I get that they're supposed to be big, Texas alpha males, and that really works for some people. But in 2015, with active and enthusiastic consent being such an important and hot button issue, having the hero brush aside Avery's objections pretty much every time they have sex... It just rubbed me the wrong way.

It's crazy to think about how long it's been since [b:Smooth Talking Stranger|4066312|Smooth Talking Stranger (Travises, #3)|Lisa Kleypas|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388444124s/4066312.jpg|4113404], but with four Travis siblings we knew eventually we'd get Joe's story.

I ended up reading this book amazingly fast. I really liked Joe Travis right away. I know that he's been in the other books, but with such a gap between this book and its predecessor it's easy to forget certain things about a character. I liked how he never faltered in his pursuit of Avery despite how she tries to push him away.

Avery's messed up feelings about relationships (courtesy of her father and ex-fiance) made my heart sad because you could see in her dealing with everyone else around her (namely her half-sister Sofia) that she has such a big heart. Lisa Kleypas did great in making me tear up in one instance and laugh in another instance. I loved seeing Avery (through Joe's unwavering resolve to get Avery to date him)finally begin to gain the confidence in herself that she has in other aspects of her life.

While Joe and Avery's story was definitely the main focus, I enjoyed watching the secondary characters get a good story too without taking anything away from Joe and Avery getting their HEA. I loved seeing all the Travises again. I would say the only thing I could complain about, if you can even call it a complaint, is that once they all appeared on page, I wanted more.

I think there could be a promising offshoot story involving Travis cousin Ryan Chase whom is featured in this book. I just hope if this does happen it doesn't take quite as long to come to fruition as Brown-Eyed Girl.

I don't think you need to have read the other books in this series to enjoy / understand this book. If that is the case, I'm fairly positive that reading this book will make you want to go back and start the series from the beginning. The Travises are just too great a romance genre staple to overlook.

If you are already a fan of this series and have been eagerly anticipating Joe's story, you won't be disappointed.

This was one of the good ones... During the course of this series there was not enough information about Joe for me to be curious about this book, however I was nice, not too much drama, Spanish expressions were quite accurate even, which for some reason rarely happens, and in general a short nice reading.

This was lovely. Although there were moments that Avery was a wee bit annoying, all in all I loved both her and Joe's characters.

I also absolutely ADORED Steven and Sophia as side characters, they were delicious.

This was my first contemporary Lisa Kleypas so I had high hopes. But there were so many reasons that this was not good. I will try the earlier Travises book since they seem interesting, but the two main characters were not interesting or had a spark. After learning that the Ravenel book Hello Stranger had some race issues in the writing, when I read the character had a half Latinx sister I was worried. And I was right since Sofia does not read right to me (I'm half Mexican) and the characterization of Sofia's family and boyfriend seemed stereotypical and somewhat racist. It was frustrating as there should be more people of color in romance, but this was not the way to do it. If this seems focused on Sofia, it was because she stood out in a good way and I found it hard to like the romance when I was thinking about the rest of this.
