What a sweet surprise! A queer-ace YA fantasy novel. Was not expecting that at all. The characters were fun, the narration was engaging. I have very few complaints about this book. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys YA or queer reads. Well done!

(ALC received from NetGalley in exchange for honest review. Thank you.)

It's hard to write a final fight scene, and that's where the book mainly stumbles. But everything else was incredible.

Perhaps this simply found me at the right time, but I adored this book. More aromatic representation is desperately needed, and this was a great version of it while also being a satisfying fantasy adventure that captures middle school almost too well. It definitely hits you over the head with its themes, but I didn’t really mind that.

This was a great middle grade book filled with the perfect amounts of whimsy and drama. I loved how aromantic and asexual identities were kept separate from one another in this story, since they are so often conflated for being the same thing.

I would recommend this book to the folks who grew up on Bridge to Terebithia and Guardians of Ga’Hoole and anyone who could use a reminder of remembering your self worth.

Representation Notes:

MC: white question aromantic girl
SC: Latine bisexual boy, Latine panromantic asexual young woman, Black girl
