Okay. I've got a lot of feelings about this book, so buckle up friends. Here. We. Go.

I have been obsessed with this series since I found it. Yes, I realize how controversial JK Rowling is. Yes, I have a ton of mixed feelings about all of her books. Yes, she is a TERF and I wish she would just... just stop. But, I'm 6 books in and I've got to know how this series ends.

Now, back to the book.

The plot: okay. So JKR/RG is just venting her spleen about all the Twitter abuse she has received over the last few years. Was it exhausting to read? Yes. Is online abuse terrible and something that drives teenagers and adults to suicide? Yes. But for fucks sake, just BE ELSA JKR/GB.

Robin/Strike: I cannot, I repeat CANNOT, go through another book where these people don't just talk to each other. It has been five years. FIVE. YEARS. Just say how you feel and deal with it. Good God.

Strikes leg: every. Single. Book. Now has strike falling down because of his leg. Look, my father has a prosthetic leg. It is literally cut at the knee, almost like strikes. He has not fallen as many times as strike. The man literally played football in a prosthetic leg, it snapped while he was playing, and he had to hop off the field. Does JKR/GB know any people who have prosthetics? It doesn't feel like it.

The book overall: this was a good book. The intrigue, the mystery, the twists and turns, I loved it. But I cannot give it more than 3 stars because we are 6 books deep and the same thing happens every time. Strike glances longingly at Robin, Robin misinterprets something strike said, she runs off and almost gets stabbed again, and someone ends up in the hospital. Can we just have some character development? Please??

So good!!! I couldn’t stop listening! The action and drama are on point. The wisdom and folly of the characters- so damn poignant.

This book was whip-smart and character driven, and it kept me guessing up until the end.

What an epic read. Rowling has outdone herself. Best of the series so far (Notwithstanding the painful side plot of the relationship between Robin and Strike). Loved the way shes's taken a piss at everything from online trolls, fake accounts, alt-right groups, SJWs, pedophiles, online stalkers and hate groups. There's even a reference to (what I consider the useless site) change.org

This looks like a clever comeback against the hate she personally experienced, clever because she's not taking any sides while blowing to pieces all these sorts of groups.
The reading is a bit of a job, keeping track of who said what, when and how but nicely put together in the end.

Another instalment in the Strike Detective Series. Another chance to have a detailed look at an investigation. Whilst reading I tried to fathom out why these books are so much bigger than your standard mystery. Part of it is the interactions between detectives and characters, they are detailed, the set up to the main questions are seen, thought processes described. The plots are never straightforward, there are several strands to them that re delved into from time to time, but never just surface level. As ever I have been informed of areas of life to a level I wouldn’t expect, which is a great plus on the research of the author. I found some difficulty reading the various private message threads, maybe not really getting to grips until close to the end.

I can now watch the TV adaptation, which I know I’ll be dissatisfied with, but you cannot compress this book into six hours.
