It was bang average. Could have been 300 pages, not 1050

The audiobook is painful, don’t bother. But it’s too long and only got two stars for the rare moments when the relationship between Robin and Strike gets some space.

I love the Strike books. This one was the longest yet (over 1000 pages!) but I'd read 1000 more. Can't wait for the next installment.
Also, in writing this review I will say, unlike many other reviewers of Ink Black Heart, I have actually read it. I understand why people are mad at JK Rowling for her comments about transgender people -- she even doubled down on her ignorant remarks. But that doesn't make it okay to lie about what's in the book or rate it 1-star without reading it. That doesn't help anyone's cause. So for anyone wondering.... there is NOTHING anti-trans in this book.

TLDR: 1.5 stars rounded, wouldn’t recommend.
Okay so I have a lot to say.
1) TOOOOO LONG!!! It took 900+ pages to get to the climax, then was just 3 pages of the climax of the story. Toooooooo long and drawn out which leads me to….
2) I guessed who it was about a third of the way through. It’s becoming obvious who JKR picks for her villain
3) Weird vibes about the political agenda of the novel. Every book is political, and I think this one was trying to pitch JKR as the victim summarised as a SJW and creator who is problematic (see anti-semitic references, transphobia) is attacked by misogynists online to the point of suicide, but is actually a strong independent woman in a field dominated by men.
I think this is a PR stunt to not make her out to be a TERF and to try and make her the vicitim in online harassment by trolls and the impacts of that on her mental health. I don’t think is succeeded and is too obvious and therefore plays on the arrogance of the author to think her audience is not intelligent enough to read between the lines.
4) Can they either get together or not ffs
