Reminder to never judge a book by its cover! For example, this cover is beautiful but the book sucks!

I almost never read this because I had heard only negative feedback, but I'm so glad I did. I can actually not believe this is Mellors debut novel, because wow. A tour de force, a magnificent opus for those lost, lonely, longing and one of my favorites of all time.

The progression of the story is beautiful and the characters are flawed, but so so human. I mean, ELEANOR, c'mon, I love her and would have read an entire book of her emails alone. I don't know how Coco Mellors created a world that is so soft and blurry and maintained such sharp writing, but she did and I love.

This is not a book for everyone, but it is a book for me. And it just so happens to be my first five star read of 2024.

4.8. El final es bonito pero claro, no es lo que esperas. A la gente le tocan versione mejores de alguien que la que te toco a ti, y es por ti. Raro. No se si me cae bien Cleo.

As this was praised as the best book ever by several members of my book club (😅), I finally managed to get to it and - it‘s fine.

I like the different viewpoints and such, yet I think it was too predictable for my liking. It‘s a very cliché coming of age in a big city imho.
Also Cleo has blond hair that falls like a curtain WE GET IT!

The storyline itself is a wild ride, yet the end is actually really calm which I think was a bit disconnected. Nonetheless a good read :)
