A wonderful smart book by Horowitz - a book within a book. I quite enjoyed the entire 'whodunnit' and nods to the greats in the genre. The one item is that the main character at the end spoiled it a bit for me - both by the whole 'acting like a detective and telling you your crime' and the sudden conclusion.

My first “who done it?” Couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next one.

I was originally going to give this 3 stars because I'm not crazy about a story within a story but both stories were pretty good so here we are at a 4 I guess.

“You must know that feeling when it's raining outside and the heating's on and you lose yourself, utterly, in a book. You read and you read and you feel the pages slipping through your fingers until suddenly there are fewer in your right hand than there are in your left and you want to slow down but you still hurtle on towards a conclusion you can hardly bear to discover. Oh I can relate to all of the above. I loved this book! A classic whodunit reminiscent of Agatha Christie blended with a modern day mystery. It was clever, fresh and engaging!. So so good!

Tried reading this once before and I'm glad I stuck with it. The first 5-6 chapters are kind of a slog but once you get past that it picks up. Not sure how this could start a series, though? Also not sure if I want to find out.

I enjoyed this one, however I think a lot of the cleverness was lost on me because I'm not well-versed in classic British whodunnits.

A murder mystery in the classic style set in a British village. A book within a book. A book about writers, art and their significance. I loved it. The audio performances were incredible as well.

This will not be the last Anthony Horowitz novel I read.
