The story is very enjoyable and we owe a huge chunk of modern pirate lore to this classic. Long John Silver is one of the greatest villains ever written. Tons of modern villains seem cast in his honor without even realizing it. Despite these huge pluses, it doesn't save the book from being incredibly boring at times and genuinely difficult to read at others. I respect it for the path it paved, but it's one better told in summaries rather than from source.

A quick read of a classic. Lots of common sayings seem to have their origin here. Worthwhile.
This was actually a fun read! I wasn’t sure how much I would like it, given my history with many classics, but it really is as people say: an exciting tale about pirates and buried treasure.
I’m glad I read it, and happy to put it on my shelf.

Absolutely cracking and faithful adaptation wonderful cast
It's always illuminating to go back to "the source" of a particular genre or style and see that despite all the cliches that have come since, it can still surprise you. This is a ripping adventure and full of great characters. The pirate-speak is somewhat familiar because of all the recent interest in those Caribbean guys but also full of some wonderful turns-of-phrase. When I was younger I passed over this book, convinced it would be staid and boring compared to the sci-fi and high fantasy I preferred but I think I would have like it a lot. As an adult, I found it a well-written escape and truly deserving of its classic status.
A classic for all ages, really! It's exciting, it has interesting characters- well, Silver, that is- and a fun premise. A-hoy!
wasn't up my alley.....
[slight spoilers ahead] maybe i need to reread this on my own instead of for my college honors book club.... this was difficult to read. so many characters r introduced within the first part that it's so much work to follow. & then they all died within a couple of pages where they are introduced? i don't get it.

January Bookclub: Classic
I tried listening to it, but it’s literally so hard to pay attention to. sorry Robert Louis Stevenson, just not a classic girl!
