I think this is the 5th time I’ve read this book. So so good. I still remember the first time I read it and how it captured my imagination.
It’s Treasure Island. It’s the classic coming-of-age pirate adventure story. And for a reason.
What strikes me about this book is how good it is at surprising me. With one very obvious foreshadow, everything else seems blown by the wind into place… and yet it all happens perfectly. The characters stay in-character the whole time. It’s just a ton of fun to read.

É de ter en conta que só me puxen ler esta historia despois de ver Black Sails e quedar enganchadísima a todo o que teña a ver con piratas, así que a miña percepctión do conto, e en concreto da personaxe de Long John Silver non provén só do texto do libro, senón que é anterior, e volve sempre á historia primeira para min, algo que penso que me axudou a desfrutar máis deste libro.
Gostei do espíritu de aventura, e da sensación de ler unha historia que sentou os alicerces de moitas outras. Da personaxe de Jim gostei da súa teima, e da vibra de rapaz de 16 anos que se lle nota aínda ca distancia cronolóxica, e da personaxe de Silver gostei moito de ver os reflexos e a continuación do que xa coñecía. E gostei tamén de ler sobre unha xente cuns valores e principios que se me fan por veces alleos, como cando Jim non fuxe dos piratas tras darlle a súa palabra a Silver. É tremendo, pensar en ler unha historia imaxinada hai douscentos anos.

I was required to read this for my children's lit class this term. I figured it would be fun since it's a classic I had not yet gotten to and it's pirates, adventure, a daring young boy... How wrong I was. I found it boring, often confusing, and slow. If I was a young preteen or teen reading this, I would be totally exasperated. I have to say I liked Muppet Treasure Island better - and that was not good either.

This was one of the free Audible originals for August and had I not loved Pirates of the Caribbean (just to drool over Johhny Depp….) I would probably never have considered reading this classic.
I must give credit to the audio production. With a full cast of narrators and sound effects it was definitely impressive.
I also liked the fact that I can see how this book was the genesis for so many other pirate stories.
But for a tale full of pirates, gun fights, treasure, talking parrots, one legged strangers and secret maps, the pace was too slow and the story surprisingly bland.
Classics are either a big hit or miss with me and unfortunately I did not love it as much as I hoped I would.
