Good entry back into the series, I appreciate the attempt to make it feel like time was passing and the kids were getting older. I was wondering if that would happen
With anxious anticipation, we once again join the Baudelaires on their latest adventure. This time an entire village takes it upon themselves to raise the children, an action which here means forcing the children to obey ridiculous rules and do the village's chores. The only bright spot in this V.F.D. (an acronym here meaning "very foul development") is the handyman Hector, who shows kindness to the children.
Anyone following the adventures of the Baudelaires knows that unfortunate events are sure to follow them. As always, one of those is Count Olaf, who chose the most obnoxious (a word here meaning "a loud and flashy outfit") disguise to date.
The Quagmires make their return, but alas the reunion between them and the Baudelaires is short-lived. Which isn't to say that either group dies, but they are forced to part ways again very quickly. The most revolting (a word which here means "makes you want to gag") discovery was the fate of Esmee Squalor.
Now that the Baudelaires are self-sustaining, one can only imagine what lies before them. If like me, you wish to know the truth of the Baudelaires' fate, by all means continue on this unfortunate journey.

This one was very frustrating. Also very interesting that you start to realize Lemony Snicket is a part of the plot. He’s been outside until now.
I got to hand it to you, Count Olaf, the fountain-stuffing of the triplets/twins was smart!

Liked the mystery of the Quagmires in the fountain.
Sunny walking at the end made me cry.

Truthfully, I'm not sure I'd continue this series if it weren't for the Netflix adaptation. I feel like the books follow a predictable formula, but then, this isn't written for my age range lol. However, the ending of this one makes me interested in knowing what comes next.
