This series continues to impress me with all the ways Count Olaf manages to disguise himself and make life truly miserable for the Baudelaire's. This book was a bit more vile and brutal than the others and I assume that's what earned it it's title. The traps that these children find themselves in are so stressful but it makes it that much more relieving when they escape and survive. I was very glad to see the children growing up and experiencing some semblance of enjoyment with each other.
I know that I am only half way through this series at this point and can only imagine what lies ahead for these children. If my instincts serve me right, it's only going to continue to get worse. I can only hope that by the final installment, they manage to completely escape the clutches of Count Olaf and be at peace.

This is I think the last one of these books I ever ready as a kid. I will say reading it as an adult I picked up on things way faster than a kid would have ever (thank goodness). I really enjoyed this one as it felt like Olaf himself was not the driver but the underlying story behind Olaf.
