I'm sorry to say I liked this one less than many others in the series. For starters, the setting was not as interesting to me and there was no clever resolution that involved some of the elements set up earlier. Such as the 'murder' case or the fact the rules are quite limiting and contradictory.
I do like that the children continue to not recognize Esmé and that it twists the narrative by the quagmire triplets getting away from Olaf instead of the Beaudelaires.

Liked the setting of this one so much, but I felt it was too fast paced and didn't explore the village of Hector enough to make good on its promises

I am currently listening to this entire series as audiobooks. I highly recommend them, they’re great to listen to.
I really enjoyed this story. In the last couple of books, I loved how the mystery kept building and building and glad it continued in this book. The Boudelair orphans had to solve riddle-liked poems, which I enjoyed a lot. Hector was a really great character! One of the best, if not the best adult in the series thus far. After the 3rd and 4th book, I was worried the books would start to get repetitive but Lemony Snicket has made each book very entertaining, one after the other. With the unexpected way this book ended, I am really looking forward to how the next book will start and how the rest of the series will go.
