This was such a quirky, intriguing read. Sally is definitely a unique FMC. There are times I laughed and I wasn’t sure if I should. While I found the main story line of Sally and her personality fascinating, the parallel plot is just as compelling and maybe an even more interesting character study. Great page turner for sure with disturbing topics and implications.

I honestly didn’t love this book but I didn’t hate it either. I honestly just don’t know if it truly felt like a mystery/thriller as much as it felt like more of a (somewhat) contemporary fiction. I was waiting to be wowed by the mysteries and twists but it all made sense more than it surprised me. This is a heavy and through provoking story and I can truly say it’s unlike anything I’ve ever read. I enjoyed reading how Sally evolved but the ending was a huge let down in terms of bringing the story full circle. It felt super incomplete. Especially when it comes to what happens with a certain family member. This book just unfortunately fell flat for me in terms of expectations and character/plot development in the end but it was certainly not a bad read!

Also I didn’t understand the point of bringing up the issue with the Texaco worker and the diversifying neighborhood. Yes, Sally had a run in with her that furthered the plot but it still felt like a major issue wasn’t handled in a significant manner. I would’ve preferred not using race and diversity to set up a tense character relationship just to leave that unresolved in the end. Whatever even came of that incident?
