I jumped into this book blind, which was a mistake because I was completely blindsided by how dark it turned out to be. But it was a page turner I couldn't stop reading. I guess that's why I was disappointed with the ending, which fell pretty flat imo.
But props to the author for getting one indisputable fact of life right: all the therapy in the world and all of the inner work you've put in can be unravelled in a moment by one toxic family member. xD

I loved this book and how the past and present plot lines were interwoven. The ending left me feeling hollow
especially since Lindy never got proper justice. Stockholm Syndrome fully took hold of her and it made me so sad that she lost the will to escape even when she finally could. I understand the trauma Peter went through but I was hoping he would come to a revelation about his darkness and how he’s not actually quite so different from his dad. The last chapter of his discussing his thoughts about kidnapping again was chilling.
so -1/2 star although given the darkness of situations like these in real life, it’s fair that’s there’s not truly a “happy ending”

Virkelig god psykologisk thriller, som aldrig stopper med at overraske. Mogen vil mene at slutningen var unødvendig og dårlig - men jeg er en psycho som åbenbart elsker at være ulykkelig so there’s that.

Wow. There are no words. This book is so dark, emotional and yet so amazing. It will stay with me for a long time. I was so invested in Sally’s life and story. I felt so much for and how hard she overcame obstacles and trauma. Please please check trigger warnings. There are so many horrific things in this book and many times I had to pause and think just because I couldn’t believe what I heard. I shook my head so many times. This book is excellent. The writing is great and the story had a good amount of mystery to put things together. If you can handle the triggers I truly recommend this book. How did I wait so long to read this?

Thrilling from start to finish, listened the whole thing in one sitting sacrificing sleep because it was that engaging. The characters are vivid and I grow to really care about what happens to them through the story. A delight and incredible storytelling. Would recommend to enjoyers of book told through unique and challenging perspectives such as Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, Room, or American Psycho
