Hugely emotional book about the impacts of the Second World War. Written really cleverly (took me a minute to get the hang of the writing style) and all of the characters are explored with so much depth. Great read.

Beautiful read, but I think I read it too late in life to be changed by it. I have, at this point, read enough tales of Germans who were not Nazis; as important as those stories are to bring light to defiance and strength, this book was not the first to tell that tale to me. Don’t be fooled I still cried, but not more than other stories I’ve read of the same era.
