A little slow at first. Once I got into it, I couldn't put it down. My favorite part is the reminder of the power of one's voice.

Wow, what a story. It sucked me in and I just wanted to continue listening. Not the easiest subject for a book, but it was done well.

Great book! It was published in 2017 but definitely speaks to the after math of the murder of George Floyd, and the "woken-ing" of a lot of people, admittedly myself. It just proves both the point of the book and what Black and Brown people have been saying: this stuff has BEEN happening. Systemic oppression isn't new, it's BEEN around. This is a good introduction book too for someone who wants to know more, who wants to feel more, and understand more. I can see why Florida wants to ban it bc it makes you realize the reality of the fake American dream.

Nearly all reviews of this book note that message YA novels tend to be very bad, but surprise! this one is very good. I agree with that completely. This is a great book. The more people who read it, the better. Go get it.

I received an ARC of this book through a goodreads giveaway, thanks!
The Hate U Give is an unrelenting, powerful read about a hard topic. I was unable to put it down, and yet wanted to turn my face away from the all-too-realistic horrific events within. And yet within it all was a terrific YA love story, incredible characters to love, great laughs and great cries.

This book may be fiction but the issues it talks about are all too real. It was heartbreaking but I think everyone needs to read this to gain some perspective. Hopefully this will not be something that still happens in the future.
