The empathy, gravity, and humor with which Torrey Peters treats her characters is what made this book remarkable to me. Writing about queer family for a mixed audience is an unenviable task and Peters does so with a tremendous amount of grace. I have never read anything that so beautifully (and painfully) captures the tension between our desires, the people we have decided might help us fulfill them, and the struggle to imagine a future for which there is no clear framework. This book came to me at the exact moment I needed it and I suspect many readers will feel the same.

It was an incredibly good read - perfectly balanced irony with seriousness. It deals with topics that nobody wants to talk about - detransition, queer and polymourous co-parenthood, the dark and tearing parts about being trans. It was honest and authentic in expressing some of trans experiences while acknowledging that there are as many perspectives as trans people. The author celebrated transness in its everydayness and special moments. The story was emotional, unique and unforgettable. Glad that I happened to read it.

Extremely smart and tender story centered on the heart and complexities of gender, forming family, self love, and learning our patterns, with some unexpectedly hilarious moments and jokes. The ways we as humans are constantly navigating social dynamics and how that's multiplied by a million for trans folks in our society and how our own desires and needs are made complicated or thwarted by all of that. Did I mention: extremely smart observations on gender and all the ways, big and small, that our lives are mediated by gender norms. Highly recommend!
