WAY BETTER THAN THE FIRST. AND THE FIRST WAS REALLY GOOD!

I love the character-driven nature of the book and it made me forget i was reading a horror novel. The introduction of the new characters, Jerri and Hunter, added lots of tension to the story, especially in Rust and Cole's relationship which i was invested in throughout. So invested in fact, that i didn't care for the slasher quarter when it finally started and the slasher quarter was really good with way gorier kills than the first book. I feel like Cole and Rust's narrative arc in this book ended ambiguously, which felt painfully realistic. This book feels very different to the first - it has a more mature vibe and the small town in the first book now feels like a city. I've already ordered the third book and I'm excited to start reading it. I've heard how divisive it is.

  • What a traumatising follow up. Even more crazy and wild than the first and leaves a sense of dread for what’s to come

Very fun to revisit Kettle Springs and see what Cole, Rusty, and Quinn were up to.
Ultimately the lack of a clear villain kinda took me out of it. The fact this mob got that mobilized on a hoax rang true with our current society but also want satisfying to me. Hoping the third book is Kill Bill style!!

While I did enjoy the first book more, this was an excellent follow up. Same as before, it spends about half the book on setup and half on the main event. Looking forward to the next!
