I love the character-driven nature of the book and it made me forget i was reading a horror novel. The introduction of the new characters, Jerri and Hunter, added lots of tension to the story, especially in Rust and Cole's relationship which i was invested in throughout. So invested in fact, that i didn't care for the slasher quarter when it finally started and the slasher quarter was really good with way gorier kills than the first book. I feel like Cole and Rust's narrative arc in this book ended ambiguously, which felt painfully realistic. This book feels very different to the first - it has a more mature vibe and the small town in the first book now feels like a city. I've already ordered the third book and I'm excited to start reading it. I've heard how divisive it is.
Graphic: Gore, Gun violence, Toxic relationship, Stalking, Murder
Minor: Transphobia
Graphic: Violence, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
Moderate: Alcoholism, Medical content, Stalking
Minor: Transphobia
In some ways this was better than the first book, but in some ways it wasn't better. It was less gruesome, but had more real terror.
People, once again, are the real monsters in the world. This was infuriating to read,

I really love Quinn and the relationship between Cole and Rust. Getting to read more of their friendships/relationships after the horror of the first book was so much fun.
Marta Lee and Izzy .... they were great additions to the story. Hunter was too, although I really wanted to strangle him at times, but I am sure that was the point.... well and Cole when it came to them talking to each other.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and Jesse does an AMAZING job with the audio books.

The introduction or Jerri was so good and her story was a perfect introduction into the original three's story. The relationship she had with Ms. Reyes was complex to say the least.
Can't wait for the next chapter of this story.

I love Quinn & Rust’s friendship and caretaking of each other without the eye-rolling romance involved! I think Rust is a unique character, he's into weapons but only is them for self-defense and tries to do as little damage as possible.
