I read the first edition last year and found it thought-provoking. I think reading through this time I was even more impressed. The two essays that are added are quite good. There's nuggets and tidbits to think about scattered throughout.
Adam has a strong Pauline vibe to his thought, which is evident here in the presence of grace & dying in Christ (and promise to be around in spades in his upcoming book). I find a lot of Adam's work compelling and insightful and always worth engaging with. I don't agree with everything he writes, but I don't think he demands that of the reader. I might do some more explicit engagement with specific sections of the book on my blog, but for now, I think this is well worth the attention of all Mormons, young or old.
And I'm inspired to try my hand at writing my own version, a translation or something of Adam's work, so we'll see how that works and comes together.

4.5. I really enjoyed reading this. It is an excellent series of letters for "readers who cherish the life of the mind and the things of the Spirit." It put into words feelings and thoughts that I have held for a long time but never articulated as well (Temples, Hunger and Sex), and it brought up new insights into doctrines and scriptures that I hadn't thought of before (i.e. Eternal Life). I was a little frustrated where it was more ethereal when I wanted practical advice ("that's great and all, but what does throwing away my narratives and accepting God's story for my life actually look like?? How do I know if I'm succeeding?") And I enjoyed the advice in the Scripture and Prayer chapters. (Who knows, maybe I'll try my hand at transcribing the scriptures myself.) The letters stay in the realm of ideas for the most part, but I liked the messages and especially the sincerity from someone who clearly thinks broadly and cares about, again, both believing and thinking.
Refreshing take on Mormon doctrines. This one will keep me thinking, pondering, and exploring spirituality.
If I had read this at 16 I probably wouldn’t have understood it, but man if I could have it would have drastically changed my spiritual development. Still, I’m so grateful I read it now and have it to use as I raise my children. An absolute must read for every Mormon. ❤️
It has it's moments of profound spiritual insight, but it's also needlessly wordy and ambiguous in some places--kinda like the scriptures, so very on-brand after all!
Interesting and thought-provoking, different from the typical "Church" book.
I'll definitely be coming back to this one. So many good insights and new ways to think about the way we live our lives. Miller's repeated admonition to pay attention to life really struck me. We don't always have to be doing. Sometimes we just need to be watching and waiting. This book is full of practical advise as well as deep philosophical thought . . . quite an impressive feat in only 78 pages.
Short chapters on diverse subjects like sex, temples, history and work. Although the title suggests the letters are for young Mormons, I think a reader of any age will benefit from them. [How old is a young Mormon anyway?] I loved the plain writing (with a touch of philosophy) and the lack of cheesiness or platitudes. This is not your typical Deseret Book fare.
A great read. Highly recommended.

Religious books are difficult for me to read. "Letters to a Young Mormon" was not at all. Miller's writing style feels familiar and friendly. It's as if an old friend is sitting next to you and telling you their honest beliefs. I throughly enjoyed the simple way in which Miller explained his views on various points of Mormon doctrine. I also found myself contemplating his analogies and being reminded of phrases he used as I went about living my life. This book was incredibly relatable, helpful, and inspirational. I would definitely recommend it to any Mormon youth.
