The Blessings series is such a relaxing way to pass some time. Bad things happen, but good will triumph. They've got a Christian inspirational message, but it's not too in your face or proselytising so you don't feel like you're being preached too. Perfect reading for Easter Week.

This book is a prime example of why, continually, I see other blogs and hear podcasts talking about how awesome Beverly Jenkins is. I haven't read other books in the Blessings series, but didn't feel like I needed to. History of the town and this series was expertly woven in (not pounded over my head).
This book features the weaving together of several stories. A few felt a little short-changed but I have a feeling that's because they were being built up for the next book.
Bernadine Brown bought the town of Henry Adams as a gift to herself after a divorce from her philandering husband. She's settled in nicely but now is the recipient of some bad news. Her little sister, the pampered princess who made Bernadine's childhood horrible, is getting a divorce. And having alienated all three of her children, Diane (who re-branded herself Diana, even as she still calls her sister Bernie) is coming to Henry Adams.
Zoey is having some problems as well. She picked out her adoptive parents and encouraged her formerly famous mother to revive her singing career. Now her father is having problems and their marriage is in trouble. Zoey feels like it could be her fault. Then there's the fact that her former best friend has turned into a jerk and the new boy in town is super-cute... There's a lot going on.

This was a really good, light story about family and love. I have not read the previous books, but I need not feel lost. She does mentioned events that happened before, but I was never confused.

I grow more and more enamored with Henry Adams and the Blessings series with each book that comes out. I love learning the backstories of the characters and seeing how that story evolves in each book. Beverly Jenkins does not shy away from the practical realities of life while still giving the reader hope for the best. In Heart of Gold we see Roni and Reg awkwardly adjust to their new phase of their marriage, we learn much more about Zoey and we even meet Bernadine's unpleasant sister Diane/Diana. Many parts of the book made smile, a few drew tears and many more made me laugh. I would highly suggest this book and the whole series to a friend and am impatiently awaiting the opportunity to read the next installment.
