Finally finished this after years of plodding along. It's really hovering between two and three stars...

Amazing book. I did not think I would enjoy it but I am really convinced that it happened.
So imaginative, but a great read.
Would recommend to everyone!

A very long read. Didn't enjoy it a lot but felt the need to finish. Now I can say I did it!

I have read the Lord of the Rings at least a dozen times. I then started reading several translations (German, Norwegian, Portuguese, and French). Apart from English, those are the languages I can read more or less fluently. However, I could probably read the Lord of the Rings in a language I am not so familiar with, since I know the story almost by heart. I am not usually a great re-reader, nor do I generally read fantasy, it’s just this book, which has become somewhat of a safety blanket. My favourite chapters are at the very beginning and the end: leaving and coming home to the Shire.

“And then it seemed to him that as in his dream in the house of Bombadil, the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

4° rilettura.
Inarrivabile.

A re-read of LOTR for the first time in about 10 years. Always a fantastic read. Only knocked of .5 stars because I always thought that Tolkien's battle scenes were dry for something meant to be exciting. Some battles in books I have read have made me run laps around my house in anticipation but Tolkien is not that!
